How To Remove Ingrown Hair? Tips & Products
Ingrown hair after a hair removal treatment? Yes, it happens to most of us. We’ve all experienced that at some point and it can get quite frustrating dealing with them. How can we treat them and what is the best ingrown hair product to deliver fast results?
Most ingrown hairs do not cause severe complications and usually, after some time, they disappear on their own. But there are cases when they become infected, and you’ll need treatment. Either way, they are not nice to look at and most of us will do anything to get rid of them. There are a few tips and products you can try, in order to get rid of the stubborn ingrown hair.

The easiest solution I found for having a smooth skin without any dark spot, ingrown hairs or bumps was, getting at home laser hair removal. With the help of Tria 4x and Remington IPL, which are devices intended to be used at home, I finally got rid of the ingrown hairs which were present after every wax or shaving session.
Laser hair removal and ingrown hairs? What’s the connection between the two and how exactly laser hair removal helps with getting rid of the difficult hairs?
The diode laser, damages your hair follicles on a deeper level, therefore is cutting back on your body hair. Also, due to this type of treatment, the hair is encouraged to grow straight ( that’s what my dermatologist said). This is not a overnight solution, but it is an effective one because it doesn’t allow ingrown hair to form in the first place. So thank god for the laser technology!!
But for those, who can’t afford to buy a home laser device or to go to a laser clinic, and you’re using an epilator or a waxing kit to remove your hair, there is a solution for you as well. Just follow these simple tips I’ll share with you and soon you’ll have the beautiful looking smooth skin you’ve always dreamed of. Let’s get into it!
1. Prevent
In my opinion, is better to prevent than treat a problem.
In this case, exfoliation is key. By exfoliating, you remove dead cells which are the main cause of the ingrown hair, because they prevent the hairs from breaking to the surface of the skin. The hairs can not penetrate the skin so they curl back under and continue growing underneath.
There are tho ways you can exfoliate:
- physical
- chemical
The easiest and most common exfoliation is the physical one. This type of exfoliation will help you prevent forming ingrown hairs by removing the dirt, oil and dead cells which clogs the hair follicle. You can do it with the help of a exfoliation brush, gloves, or a body scrub. Actually, you can make your own body scrub at home. Just simply mix in a jar: coconut oil, pink Himalayan salt and a few drops of your favourite essential oils. That’s it!
I, personally use for exfoliation, gloves, a dry brush and a body scrub, but not all at the same time. I do exfoliate every day, before shower. In one day I’m using my dry brush.
I do recommend a dry brush made of natural hairs, and not animal product, like these one- Ella dry brush.
This brush is great for your lymphatic system as well and for cellulite actually. To get the best results do the brushing in circular motion, starting from your feet up to your body. The circular moves should be made towards your heart to promote lymphatic drainage.
In other days I’m using gloves, to be more precise –Earth therapeutics exfoliating hydro gloves.
These Eart therapeutics gloves are specially designed for removing dead cells in order to achieve a natural exfoliation. They are cheap, but very effective and great for a mild exfoliation. That’s why I love them!
You can use them every day, they are not harsh. It will keep your pores, follicles clear and will prevent hairs from growing inward.
Another product you can use daily for exfoliation, is a body scrub.
I personally believe the best exfoliating body scrub for ingrown hairs is the one you make yourself. Just put in a jar 1 cup of Himalaya salt and mix it with half of cup of coconut oil and a few drops of grapefruit essential oil and that’s it. Healthy and efficient!
If you are not the type of person who likes to do their own body scrub you can try this one – MAJESTIC PURE Tea Tree Body and Foot Scrub.
I love it because it has tea trea oil in it, which is a natural antiseptic and helps with the irritation and inflammation of the skin.
2. Shave in the right direction
In between waxing/ epilation session is good to shave. But make sure to shave in the direction of the hair growth to not experience bumps or ingrown hairs. It’s important to invest in a good razor and not overuse it. The razor should not catch and pull hairs. It needs to glide gently across the skin.
3. Moisturize
This is an important step you won’t want to mis. But what’s more important, is to moisturise your skin with a noncomedogenic lotion. Why noncomedogenic? Because it won’t clog your pores like regular lotions normally do. When the pores gets clogged your chances to wake up with ingrown hairs or blackheads are higher.
I personally use a natural raw shea butter, this one, which I mix with a few drops of sweet almond oil. That way it is more spreadable and easier to apply and I get that extra vitamin E from the almond oil.
4.Chemical exfoliation
Is the most effective method to treat your problematic skin due to its ingredients. You need to look for products that contain alpha-hydroxy acids or salicylic acid.
In the past, when I used to shave, I used to get serious ingrown hairs. I had them for years and I tried everything to get rid of them. I used to plug them with a tweezer, which actually made it worst. So please, do not remove your ingrown hair with a tweezer or a needle. It can get infected or it can leave you with a scar. I remember I had so many scars on my legs because of the plugging, and it took so long for the scars to heal and disappear. I know it’s frustrating and you want to get rid of them asap but plugging them is not a solution.
It got me very frustrated as well and it continued for years, until I went to see my dermatologist. She then recommended laser hair removal or, the cheaper version, chemical exfoliation. Since laser hair removal at her clinic was too expensive for me then, I went with the chemical exfoliation for ingrown hair. She recommended PFB Vanish.
PFB Vanish + Chromabright 93G
Is by far the best product to treat ingrown hairs fast. If you’re looking for a fast and effective method to get rid of those stubborn ingrown hairs, the PFB vanish is your answer. It gets rid of those dark spots you get after shaving. It can be used by men and women. This roll on is fragrance free and can be used all over the body: face, legs, underarms, bikini line, etc. The Chromabrigh helps to balance and even skin tone. Is good in reducing age spots, treating hyper pigmentation, and skin discoloration throughout the body.
How to use PFB Vanish?
Because it is a very efficient exfoliation method you don’t want to over use it, or you might irritate your skin . Personally, I used this product every time I got a wax or epilation session and it worked great for me. The ingrown hairs were gone and also my scars were significantly reduced. I was really impressed. My husband still uses it on his face for ingrown hair or razor bumps.
Please note, I did use PFB Vanish daily, but only when I had a stubborn ingrown hair and used on that affected area only. It’s up to you really how often you should treat your skin or not but remember, just don’t over use it.See how your skin reacts and take it from there.
Please don’t use other chemical exfoliants or scrub along with the PFB.
These tips and products worked great for me, hope it will for you as well.
