Create the perfect skin care routine
The key to a stunning face with or without makeup is a proper skin care routine. We know that makeup is your ally to hide imperfections, but you can also have radiant skin without a drop of makeup. That is why more and more women take interest in skin care.
Facial care is about keeping the skin of your face well hydrated and that it shows when you do not have makeup. Achieving that radiant look on your face is a trend that does not go out of style. It is about skin care regardless of age.
There’s a variety of products, but there are essentials for a perfect daily routine. Remember that it is useless to have many products if you do not know how to apply them. Here we tell you the correct order for an effective skin care routine.
Facial care routine according to your skin
Before you start your facial care routine you should identify your skin type. This is very important to know the specific care you need and the products that are most suitable for you. Let’s talk about skin types so you can identify yours:
- Oily skin
Larger pores and a shiny layer in all areas of the face is what characterizes this skin type. This produces blackheads or acne, especially in the nose, the chin and the T zone. If you have oily skin you may notice a layer of sebum that covers your face. This type of skin requires special care, even more when using makeup. This type of skin requires a facial care routine with specific products.
- Mixed skin
This type of skin is the most common. It tends to get confused with oily skin because it can present layers of shine in some areas. It does not mean that your skin is oily. This is why it’s a challenge to take care of combination skin. In some areas you will notice dryness, while others are very oily. Open pores are also noticeable in the T zone.
- Normal skin
This is the most desired skin type for all women, especially when it comes to maintaining makeup all day. The pores are very fine, the texture is smooth, the tone is more even, and no impurities are visible to the naked eye. This doesn’t mean you don’t need a facial care routine if you have this type of skin. So, if you’re not careful your skin type could change.
- Dry Skin
You can identify it because it’s appearance is rough and there are small flakes due to the level of dryness. Dry skin can have various degrees of intensity. Lines are also often marked on the face because it lacks moisture. It is often difficult to maintain makeup because dryness causes a cracked effect.
Don’t worry if you don’t have normal skin, we have the best advice. It doesn’t matter if you have oily, dry or combination skin. Your facial care routine is your best ally in these cases.
Steps to a perfect routine
We will explain everything you need to know to follow the correct order of your skin care routine. After a day of work your face will thank you if you make time for these simple steps to an effective skin care routine.
- Remove make-up
You only need a washcloth and a makeup remover. I love castor oil to remove makeup because it is antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. This is great for delicate skin because it has excellent properties, this is why it’s part of my own routine.
There are other products: biphasic makeup removers or micellar water are ideal for removing any remaining makeup. Biphasic makeup removers have oil and water. Cleaning is easier and takes less time. Micellar water acts like small magnets that finish dragging any impurities.
Wiping the washcloth from the inside out, especially in the area of dark circles, is how you remove makeup. When you wear waterproof lashes, you should be extra careful to not squeeze the skin in that area.
I also recommend you wash your face every night and every morning with facial special soap. You can also use a sponge with silicone bristles for a superficial exfoliation.
How to do the exfoliation? You impregnate the sponge with the soap and pass it over your face with circular movements. If you run it on the side that has the longest bristles, it can penetrate the pores for a deep cleaning.
This step is the most important of your facial care routine, especially when you have a lot of makeup.
- Facial toner
A toner helps control and balance the pH in the skin. It also serves to add any hydration or active ingredient that your skin might need. There are several tonics depending on your skin type:
- Rose water is very common in the makeup world and helps control the pH of the skin.
- Cucumber water that helps minimize the pores of the face.
- Witch hazel is ideal for oily skin because it helps control the shine on the face.
- A toner with natural extracts is ideal for normal to dry skin, because they control the pH.
To start applying the toner, it is ideal to use small wipes to do it in parts and thus cover each area of the face. Pass the wipe upwards with gentle strokes.
- Serum
You cannot miss this product that hydrates and repairs your skin. It is important because it can reach the deepest layers of the skin. Remember that the skin has three layers: epidermis, dermis and hypodermis.
The epidermis is the most superficial layer. The dermis and hypodermis are the deepest, and in which your facial creams cannot reach. That is what the serum achieves. It penetrates the deepest layers of the skin for better hydration and repair.
The serum is a supplement with active ingredients like minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. This product is ideal to work fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration and firmness of the face.
Like other products, a serum has different presentations for skin types. Vitamin C and Niacinamide help discoloration. Vitamin E and collagen are amazing at revitalising. Hyaluronic acid serums are perfect for working fine lines. Finally, glycolic acid helps to clarify, but it is advisable to remove it after using it.
- Moisturizer
This cream helps take care of the epidermis, which is the most superficial and visible layer. Before deciding on a product, make sure you understand what your skin needs. Hydration and moisturizing are two different benefits. Hydration brings water to your skin. Moisturizing creates a protective layer that keeps the skin moist.
You should also know that the pH of the skin can get altered according to weather change. So if you are in a hot climate and go to a cold climate, it is natural that your skin tends to dry out. This is why it is important to use moisturizers and hydrating creams to balance the pH of the skin.
- Sunscreen
Sunscreen is the last step, but not least, because with this product you will avoid the formation of spots. So it is useless if you do the entire facial care routine and do not take care of your skin from sun exposure.
Apply sunscreen to the entire face and neck until all areas are evenly covered. Remember that you must protect your skin from UV rays at all times. At night you should drop the use of sunscreen.
Final recommendations for your routine
When applying each product, wait a few minutes or seconds for the previous product to absorb. Let your makeup-free face rest for a few hours every day. Complete your facial care routine with the best products you can find for your needs. It is best to include each product step by step and not mix them all at once. I also recommend collagen patches, especially if you wear makeup on a daily basis. Another recommendation is to make your own homemade masks.
Although a skin care routine requires time, it is important that you do it daily. So, to summarise the perfect skin care routine: first remove makeup, then apply toner, followed by serum, next moisturizer and finish with sunscreen.
